Although his early art experience began with portrait painting, Larry Chandler always had the desire to express his love of nature through North American wildlife and hunting scenes. He started learning about wildlife and the outdoors at an early age as he accompanied his father and brother on frequent hunting and fishing trips in his home state of Alabama. His artwork has always depended on extensive field study and photography.
In 1998, when Chandler won the Arkansas State Duck Stamp Competition, he was selected by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to paint President Bill Clinton with his chocolate lab, Buddy. The Commission presented the portrait to President Clinton for Christmas.
Since then he was Named Artist of the Year at the 1999 Ducks Unlimited Great Outdoors Festival and his painting was selected for the DU 1999 print. Other honors include DU National Artist of the Year 2000 and winner of the 2000 Arkansas State Duck Stamp.
