Original works by wildlife artist Les Didier have been in demand for
more than 30 years. An Ohio native. Didier established his commercial art business in Milwaukee in 1957.
Wisconsin lakes and woods have since become his second studio. In 1986
Didier was named Artist of the Year by WMVS-TV, the public television
station in Milwaukee. His work was selected for the Leigh Yawkey
Woodson’s "Birds in Art" Show for four consecutive years. In 1995 he
won the Wisconsin Duck Stamp competition in 1995, 1998 and 2001.
Didier sees his
completed work as a blending of the imagery of mind and senses. "The
eyes see more than the camera can record or field sketch contain. One
must absorb the sounds and smells and solitude of the outdoors to allow
the inner eye to more fully understand. It is this imagery of mind and
senses that most fascinates me and what I attempt to capture and
combine with the reality of the species. For me, one element without
the other results in an incomplete statement."
I was born in 1930 and raised in Dayton Ohio where I attended college specializing in Commercial Art. For a period of time, I accepted an apprenticeship in the art department of a printing company. Then in 1951, I entered the USAF working in the graphic arts area. After returning to Dayton, I joined the staff of an ad agency as an illustrator.
In 1957, a move brought me to Wisconsin where I worked as an illustrator for various companies. This gave me the great opportunity to work on various local and national accounts. In 1967, I formed my own successful as art studio in Milwaukee, which was later sold in 1987, because of my desire to get away from the rigors of commercial work. I painted wildlife, mostly birds as a diversion from commercial art and decided this was a direction I would like to take.
My wife Marge and I have been married for 50 years and currently reside in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. We have been blessed with seven married children and 22 grandchildren.
