Holly Sue Foss

For many years I have been a printmaker creating Serigraphs. It has roots from Japan and China. It is commonly called Silk-screening. Silk was used on the screen because of its strength but today a synthetic material works better. I start with a pencil drawing, ink it in, and add color. I make many decisions along the way. I cut a film for each color in my design. I adhere the stencil to the screen and use a squeegee to push the ink through the screen onto my paper. Once I begin printing a color, I have to keep going or the ink can dry and clog my screen. Gold and silver take more strength. The whole process is one of not ever knowing what the final piece will look like. I love it because it expresses the way I think and draw. Technically it is a method that is done by hand and there are no computers or electricity. My art takes time to make and I hope to give a lasting enjoyment to those who have supported my artistic journey!
