Gary Lessord

Artist's Statement/Quote

As a high school senior, Gary Lessord received the National Scholastic Portfolio Award in New York City and a scholarship to Rochester Institute of Technology. This led to further study at the State University of New York at Brockport and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, Summa Cum Laude.

Over the years, Gary Lessord has changed his subject matter, technique and style. The thrill of exploration has motivated him to experiment in pencil, lithography, intaglio, pen and ink, watercolor, oil and acrylic media. Today he works primarily in acrylic, watercolor and pencil.

With a variety of artwork appearing in illustrations for magazine covers, books, brochures and movies, Gary Lessord has extensive publication experience. Public and private collections throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe feature his artwork.

Gary Lessord has also taught wildlife painting and drawing at the University of Rochester's Memorial Art Gallery, and illustration and portfolio classes at Valencia Community College, Orlando. One of his paintings, Creative Splendor, was even exhibited at the U.S. Senate Rotunda in Washington D.C. and at the Society of Illustrators Museum in New York City.

Gary Lessord paints portraits, figures and landscapes. His work depicts wildlife art and Christian themes with an emphasis on life and belonging – all formed on light, shadow, and mood. He believes these are vital ingredients for successful artwork along with love, respect and intensity. As an artist, Gary Lessord’s goal is to portray the magnificent created beauty he sees before him and to share that vision with others.
