Tom Anderson

Artist's Statement/Quote

"I hope you enjoy viewing my work as much as I enjoy creating it."

Tom Anderson describes his work as "figurative art with a taste for the outdoors."

Like most artists, his interest in art first appeared when he was a child. He would spend time on inclement days, with a piece of paper and pencil trying to reproduce comic book covers and a variety of other subjects that a kid his age would find interesting. He also took every opportunity to see what new and exciting art Outdoor Life and Sports Afield had to offer.

Balancing between fine art and illustration, Tom is interested in making art that tells a story. "I pretty much create images that are familiar to me."

A combination of observing life, utilizing resources and tapping into personal experiences all blend together to generate high levels of enthusiasm and new ideas.

Tom was born and raised in Virginia, Minnesota. In 1981 he graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Commercial Art.

While working as a designer and illustrator, Tom looked for avenues to show his work. Although he found great satisfaction in seeing his work produced for advertising purposes, he was more interested in having his work hang in someone's home.

Tom has chosen colored pencil as his medium of expression. "Colored pencil gives my work a high level of detail and realism."
